Mission

The Association for Traditional Studies is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and dissemination of China's traditional knowledge, bringing the wisdom of its past to the present.

About ATS

Traditional knowledge in China and around the world has much to contribute to the current paradigms of medicine, lifestyle and general well-being. Yet, in this age of globalization, the wisdom and insights imbedded within these traditional cultures are vanishing at an alarming rate. To counter this trend, the Association for Traditional Studies (ATS) was founded in 1991 with a mission of bringing the benefits of this authentic knowledge to contemporary society. By partnering with traditional Chinese practitioners of authentic lineages in the fields of Chinese medicine, martial arts, and health benefiting practices, ATS ensures traditional knowledge will survive this critical time. The ATS mission is accomplished through identifying practitioners, helping them document their knowledge in an educational format, and organizing training opportunities in the US, China and Europe.

Greetings from ATS!

We have much to announce this month, so please read on!

The website version of Dr. Xie' stele is finally posted! We know many of you have been wondering when that would finally be finished and are glad to say that it has been worth the wait. The site has thumbnails of the ceremony, pictures of the steles, the English and Chinese text on the foreign stele, charts for finding your name, and the list of names in both Chinese and English. Sign up now for the October Yin Style Bagua Intensive taught by He Jinbao with special classes by Dr. Xie's oldest surviving student, 76 year old Liu Shichang! The 12 day intensive ends with the one year anniversary ceremony at Dr. Xie's stele. This will be an incredible chance to meet many of Dr. Xie's surviving students from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. ATS also has two Hospital Training Programs for Chinese Medicine happening in 2005. The three week training programs are in January and August at the Beijing Hospital for Chinese Medicine, and are organized and translated by Andrew Nugent-Head. If you have ever been to China to study medicine or are thinking of going, you should read the background information on Contemporary Chinese medicine and study in China. The 24 Basic Hand Techniques of Yin Style Bagua's Energy-Bodywork are finally remastered on DVD! In other ATS news, ATS director Andrew Nugent-Head will be moving back to Beijing full time as of this August. This will mean that by the end of 2004 and all through 2005, we will be releasing new DVDs on Chinese medicine, martial arts, and other traditional practices.
